Orthodox Cristian Bible Commentary Series: Romans, by H.G. Bishop Youssef.
The great Apostle St. Paul wrote his Epistle to the Romans, the church which he founded, to inform them of his impending visit, and also to address a looming concern over the spread of heretical teachings by Judaizers who believed that new Christian converts had to maintain Jewish practices as prescribed by the Law of Moses (such as circumcision) along with their new Christian rites.
This heresy had already disrupted chruches in Antioch, Corinth, and Galatia, and the fear was that this would likely spread to Rome. St. Paul felt compelled to teach the Roman Christians about the doctrines of Justification and Sanctification, confirming their faith so that they may stand steadfast against the false teachers who were perverting to gospel of Christ by suggesting that the gospel of Christ was inadequate by itself (thereby leading to the erroneous thought that justification by the Law of Moses was necessary for their salvation).
This epistle begins with deep theological concepts about salvation and concludes with meaningful applications of those principles to daily living.
